For research in the field of space technology NLR has available
motion simulators for dynamic testing of attitude and orbit
control systems. For the testing of space manipulator systems
several simulation facilities are being developed. In a space
simulation chamber satellite materials and structures can be
tested in a simulated space environment. A test bed was
developed for teleoperated instrumentation to be used in
micro-gravity research.
NLR acts as National Point of Contact for dissemination of
remote sensing data to Dutch users. Various remote sensing
systems are operated from the laboratory aircraft.
Recent work includes;
- development of test and simulation assembly for attitude control systems:
- developing on-board attitude control software for SAX (in cooperation with
Fokker Space & Systems);
- development of the Hermes Robot Arm (HERA) Simulation Facility, real time and non-real time;
- development of Telescience equipment, including Optical Diagnostic Instrumentation;
- development of encryption/decryption software for Meteosat operations;
- data acquisition and control equipment for microgravity experiments in
TEXUS flights.
