- The German-Dutch Wind Tunnel DNW, a joint venture of NLR and
its German sister organization DLR, is the most sophisticated
installation in Europe for aerodynamic and aeroacoustic
research in the low-speed regime. The independent Foundation
DNW, in which NLR and DLR equally participate, is responsible
for the operation, maintenance and further development of this
large low-speed wind tunnel (interchangeable test sections of
up to 9,5 m x 9,5 cross section). DNW is being used in several
aircraft and helicopter development programmes, and for testing
full-scale motor vehicles. Its capabilities for aeroacoustic
testing are excellent, and are utilized extensively, in
particular for helicopter noise studies.
